Pirfenex 200 mg (Pirfenidone)

Pirfenidone is a prescription medicine used to treat people with a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

FDA approval of two new drugs for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (Esbriet and Ofev) offers new hope for patients who live with this deadly, incurable disease.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Esbriet (pirfenidone), a TGF-beta synthesis inhibitor for the treatment of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

Uses of Pirfenex 200 mg tablets

Pirfenidone is used in the treatment of mild to moderate Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). IPF is chronic fibrotic and inflammatory lung disease where the lungs tissues become swollen and scarred over time due to synthesis and release of certain chemicals (pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-?] and interleukin-1-beta [IL-1?]), causing difficulty in breathing.

How Pirfenex 200 mg tablet works

Pirfenidone is an anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory agent and belongs to a class of medications called pyridones. Pirfenidone relieves conditions of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis by reducing fibroblast growth (cells of the connective tissue which produce collagen and other fibres), reducing production of inflammatory chemicals and preventing accumulation of cell contents (extracellular matrix), thereby relieving swelling and inflammation of the lungs.
