TROPINE contains Atropine which belongs to a group of medicines called anticholinergics

WHAT TROPINE IS USED FOR?
n
It is used:
nDuring anaesthesia to dry up secretions in the mouth and chest and to keep heart beat normal
nIn the treatment of poisoning caused by certain substances like pesticides
nTo reverse the effects of certain drugs given during surgery to relax muscles
nTo prevent slowing of the heartbeat during CPR (emergency procedure undertaken to revive the heart when it has suddenly stopped)
nTo reverse over activity of certain substances (cholinergic crises) in myasthenia gravis (a condition where muscles become easily fatigued and weak due to defect in nerve muscle stimulation)

Talk to your doctor if you:
nAre allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
nHave muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
nSuffer from a disease of the colon and rectum (severe ulcerative colitis)
nSuffer from glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
nSuffer from paralytic ileus (a condition of the gut that causes severe constipation and bloating caused by inactivity of your intestines)
nSuffer from pyloric stenosis (a narrowing of the opening from the stomach to the intestine)
nSuffer from toxic megacolon (dilated colon accompanied by bloating, fever and abdominal pain)
nHave an overactive thyroid gland
nSuffer from reflux esophagitis (a condition that causes severe heart burn)
nSuffer from enlargement of the prostate
nHave problems associated with mental and physical growth (Down’s syndrome)
nHave had a heart transplantation
nHave chronic pulmonary disease where the airflow to your lungs is restricted and you may cough and feel breathless
nHave heartburn or indigestion
nHave kidney, heart or liver disease
nSuffer from high blood pressure

PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine

CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
n
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel like drowsiness, blurred vision, confusion and hallucinations
n
n
INTERACTIONS:
n
Tell your doctor, if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines such as:
nDisopyramide, mexiletine, quinidine (for irregular heartbeats)
nClozapine, olanzapine (used for mental disorders)
nDomperidone, metoclopramide (used for vomiting)
nKetoconazole (for fungal infection)
nNitrates (used to treat chest pain)
nAntihistamines (for allergy)
nPhenothiazine or butyrophenone drugs (for anxiety or for more serious mental illness, or to relieve feeling or being sick)
nTricyclic antidepressants, Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (to relieve depression)
nAmantadine used to treat Parkinsonism (a disorder in the brain causing muscle stiffness and shaking)
nDicyclomine (antispasmodic drug)
nPropranolol (used to treat hypertension)

DIRECTIONS & FOR USE:
n
This medicine is usually given by a doctor or nurse
nIt is administered by injection into a vein, into the muscle or into the tissue just beneath the skin
n
If you are given more TROPINE
nIt is unlikely because the medicine will be administered by a doctor if you suspect you have been given too much, you should tell the doctor immediately
nSymptoms of overdose: difficulty in breathing, restlessness, hallucinations (seeing things that are not there) and occasionally convulsions
n
SIDE EFFECTS OF TROPINE:

SERIOUS

• Sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body)
n
n
VERY RARE
n
• Heart conduction problems
n
n
