TRIQUILAR contains levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol which belongs to a group of medicine called oral contraceptives

WHAT TRIQUILAR IS USED FOR?

It is used in preventing pregnancy
nIt works by inhibiting the monthly release of an egg by the ovaries and changing the mucus produced by the cervix (narrow outer end of the womb). This slows the movement of the sperm through the mucus and through the uterus (womb)

Talk to your doctor if you:
nAre allergic to any other ingredients of this medicine
nHave a strong family history of breast cancer
nSuffer from diabetes
nHave high blood pressure
nHave abnormal levels of fats in the bloodstream (high cholesterol or triglycerides)
nHave epilepsy/seizures
nHave history of depression
nHave gallbladder or pancreatic disease
nHave history of liver disease or jaundice
nHave family history of blood clots, heart attacks or strokes

PREGNANCY & BREAST FEEDING

Birth control pills should not be taken by pregnant women
nIf you are breast-feeding, consult your doctor before starting the birth control pill
nIf you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine

INTERACTIONS:

Tell your doctor if you are taking,
nDrugs used for epilepsy such as barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital) and phenytoin, primidone, topiramate,carbamazepine
nCertain drugs used in the treatment of tuberculosis (e.g.rifampicin, rifabutin)
nDrugs used for HIV or AIDS such as ritonavir
nHerbal products containing St. John?s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
nAntibiotics (e.g., penicillins, tetracyclines, for infectious diseases
nCyclosporine
nAntifungals (griseofulvin)
nCholesterol-lowering drugs (e.g. clofibrate)
nAntihypertensive drugs (for high blood pressure)
nAntidiabetic drugs and insulin (for diabetes)
nPrednisone

If you take more TRIQUILAR
nIf you take more of this medicine, talk to your doctor or go to your nearest hospital immediately

nIf you forget to take TRIQUILAR

nIf you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it, take the next dose at your regular time
n
nIf you stop taking TRIQUILAR
n
nDo not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells to do so

SIDE EFFECTS OF TRIQUILAR:
n
SERIOUS
n
• Sharp chest pain, coughing of blood, or sudden shortness of breath (indicating a possible clot in the lung)
n• Pain in the calf (indicating a possible clot in the leg)
n• Crushing chest pain or heaviness in the chest (indicating a possible heart attack)
n• Sudden severe headache or vomiting, dizziness or fainting, disturbances of vision or speech, weakness, or numbness in an arm or leg (indicating a possible stroke)
n• Sudden partial or complete loss of vision (indicating a possible clot in the eye)
n• Breast lumps (indicating possible breast cancer or fibrocystic disease of the breast; ask your health-care provider to show you how to examine your breasts)
n• Severe pain or tenderness in the stomach area (indicating a possibly ruptured liver tumor)
n• Difficulty in sleeping, weakness, lack of energy, fatigue, or change in mood (possibly indicating severe depression)
n• Jaundice or a yellowing of the skin or eyeballs, accompanied frequently by fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, dark-colored urine, or light-colored bowel movements (indicating possible liver problems)

• Unexpected vaginal bleeding or spotting and changes in the usual menstrual period
