Amlodipine Besylate is a calcium channel blocker. It works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions through L type calcium channels into the vascular tissues and cardiac muscle cells. By inhibiting the entry of calcium channels one can decrease the contractility of arterial smooth muscles and causes vasodilation. This leads to relaxation of blood vessels and helps in smooth blood flow hence lowering the overall BP.
